Electronics
Description
In this induction, the member will be introduced to electronic-circuit prototyping, fabrication using stripboards / perfboards, and testing/troubleshooting of electronic circuits. They will also learn the standard placement of tools and components, and the basics of joining wires, crimping, and insulation using heatshrink tubing. The lesson plan also include the following:
-
Preparing work area and consumable before beginning to solder
-
Operating the extraction fan before soldering
-
Adjusting the heat of the soldering iron, and following sound practices in achieving a soldering time under 5 seconds
-
Using the hot air soldering gun
-
Applying sound practices in using the oscilloscope
-
Correct soldering
-
Heatshrink application and terminal crimping to join wires together
-
Identifying the correct crimp terminal to use in different situations
-
Identifying the live, neutral and earth wires in AC electrical installations
Duration
3 Hours
Tools and Equipment Access
Upon the successful completion of this induction, the member will be granted access to the soldering irons, the hot-air soldering stations, the big soldering iron, the oscilloscope, the bench voltages, and the crimping/stripping/wire cutting tools in the workshop. They are also allowed to use electronic parts and component library.
Project
This workshop is basic knowledge and skill development and is not project oriented.
Prerequisite
This course is for complete beginners, no experience required
Minimum Age
15
Minimum/Maximum Attendees
5 - 10 attendees
Safety
Attire: Not Applicable
Gear: None Required
Supervision Requirement
During Workshop: Instructor and assistant supervision
After Workshop: No supervision is needed after induction. However, this induction doesn’t give the maker the right to experiment with high-voltages or dismantle devices containing high- voltage sections, including outlet voltages. This requires an additional level of training.
Workshop Requirements
None. However general understanding of electronics and circuitry is a a plus and helps participants make the most out of this course. Suggested reading and video content will be sent to registered participants to prepare for workshop.
Workshop Fee
Members: AED 150.00
Non-members/Private Session: AED 300.00
