Wood-working
Description
This induction to woodshop is a crash course that overviews standard safety and operation procedures of the different machines and the essential wood working tools including table saw, band saw, jointer / planer, router table, drill press, sanding belt and disk in addition to general hand tools and handheld power tools like power drills, plunge router, circular saw, jig saw, plate joiner, sanders, nail guns and other pneumatic tools.
This course is focused on imparting essential knowledge of safety practices and basic operation instructions of the above mentioned tools for members to use the woodshop facility in a safe and sound manner in addition to basic understanding of working materials including wood
sheet and planks, types of screws, adhesives and finishes. This course does not teach particular wood working techniques. Advanced wood working skills are taught in separate workshops that are project / technique oriented.
*Wood turning safety and basic operation is not included in this course. Wood turning basics are taught in a separate induction.
Duration
3 Hours
Tools and Equipment Access
Upon the successful completion of this induction and demonstration adequate understanding of the basic safety and operation procedures, members will be granted supervised access to the woodshop above mentioned equipment. Supervision period varies based on member's experience and skill level.
Project
This workshop is to impart basic knowledge and hands-on preliminary skill development and is not project oriented.

This course is for complete beginners, no experience required

Safety
Attire: No loose hair, loose clothing, rings, bracelets or
other jewelry or any garments that can become entangled with moving parts. Full trousers, closed foot wear (no slippers or sandals)
Gear: Safety gear will be provided for the induction however members are encouraged to have their own personal gear particularly respirators, goggles and ear protection.

During Workshop: Instructor and assistant supervision
After Workshop: Supervision period varies based on member's experience and competence.
Workshop Requirements
None. However researching and basic understanding of types of wood and wood working tools is advised before attending the workshop. Suggested reading and video content will be sent to registered participants to prepare for workshop.
